YOUTH FUTURES is IMPORTANT. My childhood was an adventure. I am the one in the white dress and can you guess which is my brother! My Mother and Father shared a house with two other families just so they could afford to live and save. Each family had their own room. We had a roof over our heads, we had food, support and we had LOVE. When I read about YOUTH FUTURES and the 189 young mothers who lost custody of their babies because they didn't have a home I felt terribly sad. LOVING your baby and then having to give your baby up to the State because you cannot find a safe home is DEVISTATING. If we don't support our youth we will not have a FUTURE. Youth Futures is IMPORTANT. Young mothers need support and the Youth Futures' NEST program is empowering young mothers so they can maintain custody of their babies and develop skills that will help them break the cycle of disadvantage.
PLEASE DONATE TO HELP SUPPORT THE NEST PROGRAM. Help keep young mothers and their babies together and give them education and life skills to raise our FUTURE.
Too many teen parents in Perth are losing custody of their baby because they can’t give them a safe home or access to the basic necessities that every baby deserves. The NEST was created to help expectant mums and teen parents who are homeless or living in conditions unsuitable for raising a baby, for example where domestic violence is present. The program aims to empower these young mothers to maintain custody of their baby and to develop skills that will help them break the cycle of disadvantage.
To give them hope for a better future, the NEST provides teenage mothers and their children with safe and secure single-dwelling accommodation for up to 18 months (most stay for an average of six months). During this time, mothers are supported to identify and address their underlying issues as well as any barriers associated with becoming a teenage parent that may be preventing them from reaching their potential.
Youth Futures NEST workers also support each mother to plan for a brighter future. This process includes goal setting, accessing education, connecting with the community, and developing parenting, financial and independent living skills.
Demand for the NEST’s unique service is high. Unfortunately demand is so high that 189 young mums and bubs who reached out for support in 2016-17 were unable to be accommodated.
The Pipeline Challenge is a five day mountain bike adventure that takes riders on an epic journey from Kalgoorlie to Perth, all for a good cause of course!
Together we can raise much needed funds for Youth Futures' Nest program, which provide accommodation and support to teen parents experiencing homelessness and domestic violence.
